Recently Luc van Loon, professor at Human Biology and Movement Sciences (FHML) shared his special office in UM’s U-column. In line with the Education That Moves You philosophy, van Loon has traded his chairs for bicycles. “I rarely sit behind my desks, so I put six bicycles around my conference table. Some colleagues will fanatically bike in our meetings, I usually stand. I find it difficult to keep pedaling when I need to concentrate, but when I am listening I often bike. As van Loon explained: “We often say that ‘sitting is the new smoking’. These bicycle chairs interrupt your passive sitting behaviour.”
