Lumière Cinema

Create a tool for Lumière Cinema to measure the societal and cultural impact of its events, guiding strategic decisions and supporting funding requests.

The Project

The Project

Lumière is a vibrant cultural hub and cinema in Maastricht, known for its diverse film programming and special events. We are dedicated to creating meaningful cultural experiences for our visitors and fostering a positive impact on the city.

However, we currently lack the tools to measure the societal and cultural effects of our events, such as their influence on personal development and social cohesion in Maastricht. As a result, we are unable to systematically evaluate the outcomes of our activities and events in a way that would allow us to make informed, strategic decisions. Lumière Cinema is also facing financial uncertainty due to internal challenges, such as rising housing and energy costs, as well as political shifts in subsidy allocation. With this measurement tool, besides helping us guide future policies and decision making, Lumière can also better justify its existence and value to the city of Maastricht and continued financial support.

We are therefore looking for motivated students to help develop a protocol or tool that will allow us to evaluate the impact of our film activities. By joining this project, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a real-world challenge, gain valuable research experience, and influence the future of Lumière’s programming. Your work will help shape our events to better meet the needs of our visitors and provide solid evidence to support our funding requests.

Are you ready to make a difference in the cultural sector? This is your chance to apply your skills and take part in an exciting project that will leave a lasting impact on the community!

The Client

The Client

Lumière Cinema is one of the largest independent movie theatres in the Netherlands, with six screening rooms and over 7,000 film screenings per year, complemented by various business events. We present small independent films, much talked about Oscar winners, timeless classics and documentaries. We also organize numerous special activities, festivals and events, often in collaboration with cultural and social organizations. Since 2016, we are located in the former power plant of the Maastricht Sphinx factories. We have an attractive Grand Café with two terraces, six beautiful cinema rooms equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a hugely passionate and skilled team of permanent staff and volunteers. All this located on the beautiful, intimate inner harbour Het Bassin, located in the Sphinx Quarter.

Formal Client

This client provides an assignment and perceives the team of students as consultants doing a job for them. The formal client provides guidance and supports the team with feedback, but is not actively involved in project execution.
