MUMC+ Centrum voor Thuisbeademing

Develop sustainable approaches in home mechanical ventilation care, balancing CO₂ reduction and efficiency with high-quality patient care.

The Project

The Project

Are you ready to help shape the future of sustainable healthcare? Then this project is your chance to make a real difference!

The MUMC+ Centre for Home Mechanical Ventilation (CTB) Maastricht supports patients with chronic respiratory failure who receive mechanical ventilation at home. A form of care that is both intensive and resource-heavy.

So now we are looking for a team of curious, creative, and committed students to explore how this care can be made more sustainable, without compromising quality.
You will start from the insights and recommendations developed in last year’s PREMIUM project “Towards Sustainable Home Mechanical Ventilation” and take them to the next level. Whether it is improving patient communication, redesigning logistics, developing educational tools, or applying gamification, we will provide you with the freedom to choose your own direction and make it count.

We plan to use your project results to structurally embed sustainability into care routines. This includes implementing communication and educational materials, testing new logistics strategies, and empowering nurses to promote sustainable behavior. Insights will be shared with partners such as Vivisol, Logic Medical, and other CTBs.

This is a truly interdisciplinary challenge, where your ideas, skills, and vision can lead to real-world impact. You will be supported by experienced professionals, work in a collaborative team, and be encouraged to think boldly and creatively. If you are passionate about innovation, sustainability, and healthcare, then this project is for you!

The Client

The Client

The Centre for Home Mechanical Ventilation (CTB) Maastricht is one of four specialized centers in the Netherlands that coordinate care for patients with chronic respiratory failure who receive mechanical ventilation at home. CTB Maastricht is part of MUMC+ and collaborates closely with patients, caregivers, regional hospitals, care institutions, and suppliers. Together, they aim to provide safe, high-quality, and increasingly sustainable home ventilation care.

Formal Client

This client provides an assignment and perceives the team of students as consultants doing a job for them. The formal client provides guidance and supports the team with feedback, but is not actively involved in project execution.
We provide the students with a clear assignment and see the PREMIUM team as consultants working on a real-world challenge. While we will not be actively involved in the day-to-day execution of the project, we will offer regular feedback and guidance. At key moments, such as brainstorm sessions or prototype reviews, CTB is open to collaborative input and co-creative exchanges to ensure the project aligns.
