Stress & Anxiety among Students
During these times where the global pandemic regarding COVID-19 can have a massive influence on student learning, wellbeing and health, it can be especially challenging as a UM teaching staff member to support students that may be in need. Therefore EDLAB is able to offer three interesting workshops designed by the UM Psychologists and UM Wellbeing Movement that may support UM teaching staff in fostering student wellbeing in these challenging times. One of these workshops is “Stress & Anxiety among Students”:

The study period is for most students – at least to some extent – a stressful period. Stress and anxiety can be normal and even functional. As a staff member it can be of utmost importance to know about the signs of dysfunctional or unhealthy stress and anxiety. In this workshop you’ll get tools to deal with this, even more, to help prevent severe anxiety problems. Academic staff, close to the students, can have a significant impact on the wellbeing of students.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:
◊ Get insight in the concepts of stress and anxiety, with their underlying processes and causes
◊ Provide a listening ear and have a talk with the student about his struggle in stress or anxiety
◊ Guide the student towards appropriate actions that prevent stress- and anxiety problems to worsen
Whether you are active as a tutor, course coordinator, mentor, study advisor or you fulfill multiple roles, this workshop can offer everyone new insights into stress and anxiety among students. About the trainers
In these challenging times, student mental health has never been more important. Students might not always have the required skills yet to overcome the challenges they are faced with. Therefore the UM Psychologists and the UM Wellbeing Movement strive to make students more resilient and provide them with sufficient means to acquire skills that promote wellbeing during their studies and further in their professional career and life. At UM, there are many initiatives, programmes and plans that can contribute to student wellbeing and at the end of this workshop we will provide you with an introduction and overview of these ventures. PLEASE NOTE that this workshop is planned to take place via Zoom and you will receive a link in an outlook invitation prior to the event. However, if the home-working restrictions are relaxed, we will explore the possibility of moving this session to EDLAB and running it in person.
