Reflection on your teaching during COVID-19

Workshop: Reflection on your teaching during COVID-19

Description of Workshop

This is a UM Teacher Reflection and Recharge week workshop by Dr. Kariene Mittendorff.

During this busy and sometimes even hectic year, most teaching staff have gone through a lot of new experiences. For example, switching between hybrid and online education, trying out different forms of assessment and teaching techniques and perhaps supporting students more intensively then before. These events can trigger certain (new) thoughts and feelings. Am I doing a good job? What will happen next year? What is the best way to handle this situation? These questions indicate the importance of effective reflection on your teaching.

During this workshop we will provide you with strategies to consciously consider the events that occurred last year and what this exactly means for you personally. What was of value to you? What aspects in your teaching would you like to keep and strengthen? What would you like to do differently next year?

This workshop will be interactive and in small groups you will reflect on your own experience using practical techniques. You’ll also learn how to use reflection models yourself, something which could be of value to not only yourself, but also your students when applying these models in your teaching and courses.

Intended Learning Outcomes

After the session, you will:

… have acquired insights into your own professional conduct,
… be more aware about what drives you and the rationale behind it,
… be better able to make choices on what teaching practices to maintain and what you would like to change,
… have learned to use (a) reflection model(s) in a meaningful way to your own situation,
… have gained an insight in how your colleagues experienced the past academic year.
