CPD Videos in Education: Two-part series January 2021

Videos in Education: A two-part series

From concept to finished product

Due to high demand we are now offering this session again in January, please see below for more details and to sign up.

Workshop description

In the last months, the COVID-19 crisis has reshaped the way that we deliver education with many of us having to rethink how we organise student learning around the current restrictions. This means that much teaching and learning is now taking place online. Supplementing live (online or offline) sessions with pre-recorded videos in a variety of formats, has proven already to be greatly appreciated by our students as they can view parts more than once and at their own pace.

If you want to create educational videos for the first time, this workshop series will prepare you to make a successful start.

Description

In the first online session on 20th January 2021 (14:30-16:00) we will discuss several didactical scenarios within a PBL setting, and relate videos to learning outcomes. Then you will learn about various video formats, effective video design and how to deal with copyright. Together we will go through the entire video production process, including scripting and some filming tips and tricks.

The sessions are supported by online access to videos instructions and there will be time to ask questions and receive feedback. As one learns best by doing, you will be asked to complete a small assignment that prepares you for session two.

In the follow-up session on 27th January 2021 (14:30-16:00), you will be carefully guided through the basics of video-editing and have the chance to try this out for yourself in a step-by-step manner supported by an expert.

Please note that this activity is specifically for UM teaching staff with a UTQ and a teaching load of more than 160 hours per year.

Also note that the second session is planned to take place face-to-face at EDLAB, but we will be prepared to switch online, should the covid-restrictions require it.

All spots have been filled.

Please note however that we have paid to develop and offer this session together with the trainer, so if you sign up but cannot attend, we would greatly appreciate it if you could give us at least 5 days’ notice so that we can advertise your spot to others who may be interested. Cancellation without at least 5 days’ notice or failure to show up may result in your department being charged the full cost price.

EDLAB reserves the right to postpone this event should a minimum of 6 participants not be reached.

Activity full or can’t make this date? Then sign up for the waiting list and we’ll let you know as soon as this event is scheduled again.
