CPD Kick-off 2023-2024: The Era of AI and its impact on Higher Education
Please note that spaces to join this session on location at EDLAB are now fully booked but you sign up for the live stream of just the presentation on AI here
Description
There is no denying that AI, in the form of e.g. Large Language Models like ChatGPT, is here to stay and the systems behind the programmes are developing quickly. Therefore, CPD kicks off the new academic year with a special event, during which we’ll dive into the topic of AI and its impact on higher education.
To discuss these impacts on our teaching and learning at UM, we are very happy to announce that we will be joined for a lecture and workshop by Dr. Mairéad Pratschke, Professor and Chair in Digital Education in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester. Furthermore, there is room for open discussion and reflection on the topic of the day and for your CPD plans and goals for the upcoming academic year.
This activity will be offered on-site (at EDLAB) on the 26th of September from 09.30-13.00 and you can sign up below.
Full programme
- 09.30-09.45 Walk in and coffee
- 09.45-10.00 Opening
- 10.00-11.00 Educational practice for an AI world (lecture)
Mairéad will provide a high-level overview of recent developments in generative AI, explain their potential impact on higher education, and suggest an approach to designing teaching, learning and assessment for the AI age. - 11.00-11.15 Break
- 11.15-12.15 Generative AI tools and applications (workshop)
In this workshop, we will work in groups to test out a selection of generative AI tools, platforms and apps, to learn how they work and to start to think about how to design AI-enabled learning activities and/or assessments. - 12.15 Informal lunch and closing
