CPD: Data Science for Non-Data Scientists

25 March 2020
14:00 – 16:00h

Data Science for Non-Data Scientists
Data science is an interdisciplinary field of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured. This definition is being adopted by the computer science community, however, with the overlap with several fields the definition tends to change over time, moreover, the interpretation of terminologies changes depending on the application. To learn the trends related to data-driven technologies and understanding the rationale behind the data science pipeline are becoming important in a society increasingly driven by decision making based on data and algorithms.

During this workshop for UM teaching staff, you will discuss the definition of Data Science and the application among the different fields as well as to education. By the end of the workshop, you will have a clear understanding of what the data science pipeline is and how it works.

Lecture and Hands-on
1. What is Data Science and its future?
2. Why Data Literacy is important for a Data-Driven Society?
3. Discussion of ethical concerns in the use of Data Science
4. Examples of Data Science Pipeline without coding

1 x 2 hour workshop

25 euros per person

Your faculty will be billed directly for this training but your registration requires a budget number to be submitted upfront (except for FHML where this number is already known to EDLAB, in that case please just insert “FHML” upon signing up, rather than a budget number).

Cancellation fees
For participants who cancel their registration from a workshop or a course, within fewer than ten working days before the start, their administrative unit will be charged 25% of the cost price. Cancellation within fewer than five working days before the course starts, or failure to show up for the session, will result in the administrative unit being charged 100% of the cost price.

EDLAB reserves the right to postpone this event should a minimum of 6 participants not be reached.

Activity full or can’t make this date? Then sign up for the waiting list and we’ll let you know as soon as this event is scheduled again.

The workshop will take place at EDLAB, TAPX (Building X, Sint Hubertuslaan 12), room 1.009.  The session will be given in English.
