CPD Canvas Proficiency Course: Collaboration and Feedback

Canvas Proficiency Course: Collaboration and Feedback

Getting the most out of Canvas

Workshop description

In 2020, a year we all remember as one of lockdowns, bad haircuts, and online education, Maastricht University migrated from Blackboard to Canvas. To help teachers get acquainted with the new platform, the university organised Canvas workshops to present its functionalities and their value within PBL.

Whether you could or could not attend those online workshops, you may want to become an even more proficient Canvas user.  Then come to this interactive face to face advanced Canvas workshop! During this workshop you will learn using Canvas to support student collaboration and discussion, organise tutor and peer feedback, and implement and assess various types of assignments.  This will help you build a natural online extension of your PBL classroom in Canvas, enriching the learning experience.

Since every course is unique and requires its own set of activities and tools we also offer personal support after the workshop. Our student assistant team is here to help you optimise your use of Canvas for your specific needs!

This activity will be offered on-site at EDLAB on several days from September to December. You can see the available dates and sign up for the workshop below.

Important: all sessions are the same, please only register for one timeslot. In order to prepare accordingly for the workshop, registration for each edition will close 3-5 working days before the actual date of the workshop. Thank you for understanding.

Important: it is also possible to book this workshop at your faculty if for a minimum of 6 participants. Please send a mail to teachingsupport@maastrichtuniversity.nl  with your request.

Intended learning outcomes

After participating in this CPD activity, you:

  • … know how to fill the UM Canvas Course template consistently, to support students with crucial course information and create your PBL coursebook (blokboek) from Canvas into a PDF, using ‘create syllabus’,
  • … are able to create and work with existing Canvas sections and groups in a way that effectively supports UM tutorial groups and students collaborating and communicating in smaller (sub)groups,
  • … can organise and perform teacher and peer feedback as learning and as assessment in Canvas through discussion boards and assignments,
  • … can organise product feedback in Canvas assignments by setting up and using rubrics and using speed grader.
