Ekwadraat Advies B.V,

Help this consultancy firm to design a framework for decentralised regional and local energy hubs, in a bid to transfer from fossil to sustainable energy.

The Project

The Project

From COP21 in 2015, the Netherlands has adopted a national climate agreement in 2019, with 5 sectoral themes for CO2-reduction. From this national climate agreement, the Netherlands is slowly transitioning from a fossil-based energy system to a renewable based energy system.

Because of the abundance and quality of natural gas, the Netherlands has an energy system which is mostly regulated and organised from the national government. Just a couple of large companies produce energy, transport energy and distribute/sell energy to consumers and businesses.

From the transition to renewable sources, there is a change towards more decentralised regional and local energy hubs. From a technical perspective already difficult, however from an organisational, governance and legal perspective even more complex.

We would like to put our PREMIUM-team to work on designing a framework for a decentralised energy system, from an organisational point of view. Keeping in mind the legal and governance changes needed to adopt such an energy system. We would like the PREMIUM team to check the feasibility of these decentralized energy hubs on multiple levels (legal, social, organizational, governance etc).

Such an energy system would allow for a more accessible energy system, allowing more grassroots in energy to develop. By designing this framework, students can check feasibility and design the future Dutch energy system. This is a very relevant project, which might well be crucial in designing future energy systems. Also very relevant for career opportunities within our organisation, but also other Dutch businesses and governmental organisations.

In this project, the focus is on “creating something new”
