UM Library - Learning spaces

Help the UM Library in designing new concepts of futureproof learning spaces at UM.

The Project

The Project

The University Library (UL) is a partner in research and education at Maastricht University (UM) and supports knowledge development and dissemination within the UM community.

Our goal is to develop future-oriented “state of the art” learning spaces. We do this with innovative concepts, with which we, together with our students and our education and research partners, respond to changes in the way of studying, learning, and working of our students and staff.

There are currently 6 different learning space locations with more than 3,000 workplaces for 22,000 students from all over the world, and it is still growing. In addition to the diversity in workplaces, we also offer other services to support education and research at UM, such as wellbeing spaces, a makerspace, beautiful meeting places with lounge options and catering, video studios, technical equipment, and support for films, podcasts, etc.

With this PREMIUM-project we want to achieve the following:

  • Stimulate student-engagement
  • Participation of students in co-creation and co-ownership of study-learning spaces
  • Design new concepts and implement these in futureproof study-learning places for UM- students, researchers and staff
  • Integration of UM policy on, for example, diversity and inclusion and also on wellbeing in the design and implementation of our future learning spaces
  • Setting up a community hub, where we commission research and share knowledge to monitor developments and to be able to work together better in this area, together with network partners.

The students of the PREMIUM-project will work on the above mentioned issues, together with our innovator on learning spaces. The UL can offer the PREMIUM team a nice and convenient work environment, organizational power and secretarial support (for surveys etc.), adequate (management-) information, an already existing external and internal network with students, stakeholders etc. In addition, there will be physical and digital space for try outs and experiments. A budget is available.

Design-oriented

In this project, the focus is on “creating something new”

The Client

The Client

The University Library (UL) is a partner in research and education at Maastricht University (UM) and supports knowledge development and dissemination within the UM community.
The main target groups of the UB are researchers, lecturers, and students of the UM (with the focus on students for this project). The University Library is responsible for acquiring and making accessible scientific information sources (to a large extent digital) (journals, e-books, data files, DVDs, streaming videos), the digital and physical learning environment of UM, information skills training and e-learning advice, research data management (RDM), and other research support.

Co-Creator Client

This client might join the team for brainstorm sessions, meetings, and preparatory session. The co-creator is more actively involved in/during the project execution.
