COMMEET

Investigate the growth-path that COMMEET could follow towards becoming a successful Social Enterprise with long-term financial stability

The Project

The Project

  • Would you like to be active in the frontline of the developments at the United Nations?
  • Do you know about the Sustainable Development Goals and is it your ambition to contribute to their success?
  • Would you like to work and learn in an international setting, and meet new colleagues and friends worldwide?
  • Are you a team player, not afraid to make mistakes but consider them as learning moments?

In case you answered these four questions with YES, please join the assignment that is described in this text. It is about researching and designing a sustainable financial structure with a sound payment model for its services for the COMMEET Fellowship, the Social Enterprise for Community Empowerment.

Community Empowerment is an innovative way to achieve sustainable regional development. It means that local community groups, all over the world, will be asked, inspired and enabled to take the responsibility for their future into their own hands. Nowadays it is recognized that, in order to achieve the UN SDGs, there is no better way than to organize improvements bottom-up rather than asking governments, education and private companies to take the lead in these processes. For this new way of policy making we established the COMMEET Fellowship, and hope we can actively be of added value for the realization of the UN SDGs.

The COMMEET Fellowship is set up as a Foundation, with a not-for-profit structure. Until now the Fellowship has been mainly dependent on gifts and donations, with a high level of uncertainty. This makes it difficult to organize and to structure the execution of projects and to make the organisation function properly. Long-term financial security would make COMMEET less dependent on other organisations, such as enterprises, even though their donations remain most welcome. Financial independence would also enable COMMEET to market its knowledge and experience.

To improve its financial sustainability, COMMEET thinks it should organize its future growth process along the lines of a Social Enterprise, possibly in the shape of an Expertise Centre. Such an Expertise Centre should make clear what its expertise is, where this can be found and what its value is. By organizing the Fellowship this way, we hope to be able to develop a profit-making financial model. This profit will not be used for distribution among COMMEET stakeholders, but for investments in realizing its goals. The assignment for this PREMIUM project is, then, to do research into and to develop the growth-path that COMMEET could follow towards becoming a successful Social Enterprise with long-term financial stability.

The Client

The Client

COMMEET is an international Fellowship.
Its mission is to promote Community Empowerment as a means of supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 4, 5, 8, 10, 11 and 13.

Community Empowerment is a strategy to inspire and to enable local communities to take the responsibility for the future into their own hands. The Fellowship realizes its goals in the first place by composing Toolkits: these are guidelines / manuals that enable communities to select specific problems and issues and consequently tackle and solve them. In addition, COMMEET publishes Good Practices and the stories of Role Models. Finally, COMMEET offers assistance and coaching, in case communities ask for them.
