We are delighted to announce that Ellen Bastiaens has been appointed as acting director of EDLAB from 1 September 2022 to 28 February 2023. Ellen is taking over from Jeroen Kooman, who is returning to Maastricht UMC+.
After obtaining her PhD in educational science, Ellen has acquired vast experience in initiating and managing educational programmes at the intersection of strategy and policy in the educational domain. Since 2010, Ellen has held various positions at Maastricht University at the forefront of educational innovation, policy and IT. In January 2022, she joined EDLAB as deputy director.
“Exciting ambitions have been laid out for EDLAB, advancing it to a fully grown Teaching & Learning Centre,” said Jeroen Kooman. “I am convinced that the EDLAB team will continue putting all their skills and dedication to bring them to success under Ellen’s leadership. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work at EDLAB, and I wish the team a lot of success in achieving their goals.”
In her new role as acting director, Ellen will focus on strengthening EDLAB’s profile as the university’s vibrant heart of education innovation. “Together with the team, we will develop a proposal for a fully-fledged Teaching & Learning Centre. The focus will be on strengthening the cooperation between the faculties and the central organisation and creating more links between the various activities. All ingredients already exist at Maastricht University to achieve an even stronger position in Learning and Innovation!”
